Little Wing...
This amp is a 20 watt interpretation of the late 60's plexiglass front Marshall, based on the www.ax84.com "November" project. AX84 is my amp building mentor and pretty much my regular internet hang. Featuring a boat-load of talent that posts questions and answers and updates original designs on a community basis, the site is a must-see for this hobby. This amp boasts the classic Marshall "thump" and tons of subtle detail. It has a medium gain preamp that sounds as sweet or snotty as you want and cleans up nicely when you roll back the guitar knob. It uses EL84 output tubes, which don't sound quite as "Marshally" as the original EL34's, but allow a bit more sparkle. The cabinet and chassis layouts are as close as I could get to the original amp, just to get some of the original vibe. Unlike the original, this is an amp that could handle just about any volume situation. The pictures here start well into the build and detail how I did the cabinet. I recently had a chance to take this one out on the road for a weekend and used it to play both a large hall and a small bar and it was equally impressive in both settings.
